The "Circles" painting - a.k.a "Discussion and Love" - has a lot of family legacy from the time we all still lived in Shanghai. After Julie painted the first layers and has not been satisfied with the result, her oldest son chimed in and began to experiment with a kitchen spatula while the color was still wet - the T-shaped wooden tool normally being used by the French to spread Crepes on a hot plate. In this case, a "hot" painting resulted in these experiment, because also the rest of the family joined, using other tools like ice cream sticks as well. After several iterations with newly added color and more scratching from various family members, Julle became content with the result: The painting "Circles" a.k.a. "Discussion and Love" came to life. Julie is happy to present it to the public at the Association of Visual Arts "You. Me. US. - Show from June 21 until August 2, 2019. |
